Frequently Asked Questions
Here’s where we’ve rounded up answers to the most common questions about what we do at FocusNest. Curious about our ADHD-Trauma treatment? Wondering about insurance stuff? You should find what you need here (and if not, just reach out to us!).
What makes FocusNest unique?
At FocusNest, we take a creative, all-in-one approach to help with ADHD and trauma. It’s all about boosting your mental, physical, and spiritual well-being in a way that works for you.
How can I make an appointment?
You can book an appointment by filling out the Contact Form. Once we’ve gone through your email, we’ll get back to you—either to let you know if we’re not the right fit or to set up a 30-minute Consultation Meeting. This is a chance to chat openly and see if working with Drs. van den Brink feels like the right move for your symptoms.
What is the first step to begin treatment?
You'll need to take the required Art Therapy Assessment—don’t worry, no art skills needed! Just fill out the Intake Form, and we’ll get you started. Once the assessment’s done, we’ll share the results and a personalized Treatment Plan with you before your first session.
How long does a treatment process at FocusNest take?
How long the treatment takes really depends on you and what you’re working towards. For some people with mild symptoms, a few months (like 3) of therapy does the trick. If things are a bit more complex or severe, it might take a year or more to get where you want to be.
What is Art Psychotherapy?
Art therapy is all about using creative stuff like painting, sculpting, or drawing to help you work through your emotions after something tough, like a traumatic event or dealing with something like ADHD. For instance, it can support someone with depression and PTSD after something like sexual abuse, or even help someone with ADHD manage their anger. Honestly, there’s so much that art therapy can do to help out!
Is trauma therapy right for me or my child?
Our trauma therapy is here to support kids and young adults dealing with tough stuff like divorce, moving, or any kind of abuse—physical, emotional, or sexual. In a Consultation Meeting, we’ll chat together to figure out if this therapy is the right fit for you or your child. And hey, if Drs. van den Brink isn’t the best match for your situation, she’ll help point you in the right direction with a referral.
Can I get a reimbursement from my health insurer?
Drs. van den Brink mostly works with private pay internationally, but she’s also got experience working with health insurance policies, especially in The Netherlands. She’s open to collaborating with health insurers, so it’s worth checking with your health insurer about reimbursement options for Alternative or Complimentary Therapy.
For families in The Netherlands, check out the option of getting a PGB (a personal budget plan) from your municipality. You can request to work with Drs. van den Brink-El Makkaoui at FocusNest as your provider.
If money’s tight, don’t stress—there’s a sliding scale available for families and young adults facing financial challenges. Just reach out using the Contact Form, and we’ll sort it out with you.
Does FocusNest offer online consultations?
Yes, sessions can happen online through Google Meet with end-to-end encryption, depending on the situation. To make it work smoothly, you'll need a solid internet connection, a laptop or computer, a private space, some headphones, and decent quality art supplies (if needed). These sessions won’t be recorded (no video or audio). If you're outside The Netherlands, fees for online sessions are handled through Stripe, and there’s a small transaction fee included.
Cancellations & Refunds
Cancel your session at least 48 hours in advance, and you won’t be charged—easy as that! If you miss the deadline, though, the full session fee applies. If something urgent comes up on the therapist's side, you’ll be notified, and we’ll work together to find a time that works for a makeup session. Just a heads-up: sessions aren’t refundable.
Where can I make a complaint?
Got a complaint about the service? No worries—just reach out to Drs. van den Brink-El Makkaoui by phone or email, and we’ll try to sort it out together. If we can’t find a fix, you can always take it up with the Ethics Division of the ATCB (Art Therapy Credentials Board) or EFAT (European Federation for Art Therapy).
Does the website use cookies?
We use cookies on www.focusnest.nl, but don’t worry—they’re just to make things run smoothly and help us figure out how the site’s being used (all anonymous, of course). No sneaky stuff here, like tracking your IP address or anything personal.
