Culturally Attuned Therapist for Diverse Communities

Welcome!

I'm Drs. Amélie van den Brink, a mixed-ethnic Psychologist/Psychotherapist with roots in Africa, North America, and Europe.

My passion is supporting children, adolescents, and young adults, particularly those navigating ADHD, neurodiversity, and trauma-related challenges.

Comprehensive Training & Specialized Expertise

I obtained my clinical degrees in the United States, including a Bachelor's in Psychology (magnum cum laude, College of Santa Fe, 2011) and a Master of Arts in Art Therapy (cum laude, New York University, 2013).

My clinical training was completed at prestigious institutions, which provided a robust foundation for my specialized focus on youth. This included:

  • Training at the children's (and women's) psychiatric units of the Bronx Psychiatric Center in New York, where I gained extensive experience with complex conditions like Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Bipolar Disorder.

  • Specialized treatment care at the League Education and Treatment Center, focusing on children with special needs, including those on the autism spectrum (Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, PDD-NOS), developmental delays, and behavioral challenges.

  • I also collaborated with the geriatric oncology population at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Institute under the mentorship of Dr. Jimmie Holland, experience that informs my holistic approach to complex emotional and physical well-being.

Following this, I cultivated youth professional experience across education, summer programs, and disaster response, which has deepened my understanding of youth mental health care and integrated therapeutic care.

I hold several key certifications highly effective for emotional regulation in young people, including: Play Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotional Freedom Tapping (EFT), and Emotional Intelligence (EQ).

Holistic and Culturally-Informed Approach

My therapeutic approach is holistic, humanistic, and psychodynamic—always tailored to meet each young person’s unique temperament, culture, and circumstances. I integrate creative and somatic tools, like Art Therapy and EFT, to empower clients. My aim is to foster deep emotional understanding and build lasting self-confidence so they can make confident, intentional choices for their future.

I have had and continue to have the unique privilege of working with culturally diverse communities, including African, Asian, European, mixed ethnic, and families on the move.

I am passionate about preventative mental health and regularly host free workshops, including "Arting with Anger" and "Creative ADHD-Trauma Awareness," designed to provide accessible tools for young people and their support systems.

For questions about my services, please email me—I’ll respond within 48 hours. I look forward to connecting and supporting you (or your loved one) on the path to healing, growth, and well-being!
