Culturally Attuned Therapist for Diverse Communities
Welcome!
I’m Drs. Amélie van den Brink, a mixed-ethnic Psychologist/Psychotherapist with ties to Africa, North America, and Europe.
I obtained my clinical degrees in the United States, with a Bachelors in Psychology from the College of Santa Fe (graduated magnum cum laude in 2011), and later specialised in Art Therapy at New York University (graduated cum laude in 2013).
I also obtained several certifications in: Play Therapy, Emotional Freedom Tapping, Emotional Intelligence, and Internal Family Systems Therapy.
I completed my clinical practicums in the United States at prestigious institutions, gaining extensive experience in diverse settings. At the Memorial Sloan Kettering Institute, I collaborated with the geriatric oncology population under the mentorship of Dr. Jimmie Holland, contributing to a highly specialized field of care. Subsequently, I trained at the women's psychiatric unit of the Bronx Psychiatric Center in New York, where I worked with individuals diagnosed with conditions such as Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Depression. Additionally, I provided care at the League Education and Treatment Center, focusing on children with special needs, including those on the autism spectrum (Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, PDD-NOS) and individuals with developmental delays.
Following my formal education, I have cultivated extensive experience within the fields of education, summer programs, disaster response, and currently, private practice. These professional endeavors have provided me with valuable insights into the profound and lasting benefits of integrated therapeutic approaches in mental health care.
I’ve had the unique privilege of working with culturally diverse communities, including African, Asian, European, mixed ethnic, and third-culture (TCK) families.
My therapeutic approach is holistic, humanistic, and psychodynamic—tailored to meet each client’s temperament, culture, and circumstances. I aim to empower clients by fostering emotional understanding, self-confidence, and lasting self-awareness so that they can make smarter choices for themselves, in both the short and long term of their goals.
I’m passionate about preventative mental health care. I host free weekly/monthly sessions and workshops, such as breathwork 'Breathe with Me', "Arting with Anger," and Creative ADHD-Trauma Awareness. No experience is needed—everyone is welcome! View details and schedules here.
For questions about my services, email me—I’ll respond within 48 hours.
I look forward to connecting and supporting you (or your loved one) on the path to healing, growth, and well-being!
